Parking is our number one problem

Wilmont recently conducted a survey to determine the top concerns of our residents. People who live here probably won’t be surprised to learn that the majority of resondents said that parking was the number one problem facing our neighborhood. Other issues that need to be addressed were listed as (2) homelessness, (3) traffic/congestion, and (4) overdevelopment/density.
Searching for solutions, 60% of polled residents said they would support implementing diagonal parking as a way to ease our parking problems. Another 21% said they were unsure or wanted to find out more information about the proposal. Depending on the width of the individual street, a diagonal plan could potentially increase available parking by 30-70%.
Wilmont leadership continues to address these issues with City Hall. Our Chairperson recently had a very productive meeting with Santa Monica’s new Planning Director, Eileen Fogarty. They discussed our ongoing parking problems and how continuing development in the neighborhood is escalating an already-untenable situation.
If you’d like to find out more about the City’s plans for our area, come join us on Monday, March 19th at 7PM. Ms. Fogarty has agreed to address our group and listen to residents’ concerns. The meeting will be held at the Ken Edwards Center, 1527 4th Street. Free parking is available beneath the building and all Wilmonters are encouraged to join us!
